Like, OMG, Yarn (Part II)

yarntopia

The second half of my yarn spree arrived yesterday afternoon, much to my excitement.  I chanced upon Yarntopia Treasures while scouting out affordable deals and was simply amazed. They have an almost overwhelming selection of different fibers, each one offered in many stunning hand-painted color combinations.   What really impressed me was their pricing – everything ranged from four to ten dollars for very generous yardages.

Althought I was tempted to buy one of everything in their ebay shop, I restrained myself and selected four of the ones that caught my eye most and handed over my money.  From left to right, my choices were:

  • Hemp Lace in Flair, 500 yards (top) – a mix of yellow, orange, golden brown, and purple
  • Hemp Lace in Black Hills Gold, 500 yards (bottom) – tan, a very subdued orange, brown, and black
  • Bamboo Cotton Fingering in Starbucks, 420 yards – cream and pinkish browns
  • 8/2 Tencel in Tequila Sunrise, 840 yards – yellow, orange, and vivid pink

The last one on the end there was a free gift that was added to my order.  It’s 500 yards of rayon lace weight in Banana Boat, the perfect combination of pale yellows and orange. YUM!  After checking over and fondling the goodness when it arrived, I had to go back and order some more.  Hopefully that will be here within the next week or two.

I did have one other ebay purchase that I made at the same time as all the other, but unfortunately that purchase didn’t go as planned.   The auction that I bid on and won was for a skein of Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in a lovely shaded semi-solid rose.  About seven days after paying for my order, I received a message from the seller that they had accidentally sold the same skein to someone else and that they were going to send me an unnamed substitute.  I got very irritated and asked for a refund back.  The seller gave me my refund and said that I could keep the replacement or ship it back once it arrived.  Well, it arrived today, and when I opened the package up, I found a skein of Madelinetosh Tosh Sock inside.  One touch and I was in heaven!

Obviously, I’ve decided to keep it.  I did resend my payment to the seller, as keeping it without paying for it didn’t sit well with me (call me a shmuck if you’d like).  I kept finding myself randomly petting it while I spaced out in front of my computer, so I had to put it away for right now.

Hopefully these purchases will be the last of my spending splurges for a while, with the exception of small amounts of fiber for spinning.   My stash is to the point where it’s threatening to explode out of the closet and attack my husband and I while we sleep.  I think I have enough yarn to last me for at least a couple of years (although I really don’t think I could hold off on buying new yarn that long).  My main reason, however, is that I’m going to try and save up to buy myself a few “small” things (a spinning wheel, dyes and tools for dyeing, etc.).

In my next post, I should actually have some projects to show for myself. Hah.
